Special waste is any waste material which poses an unusual threat to the environment, property, or public health, welfare and safety. Because of these threats, the EPA requires special treatment of several types of wastes, that while not technically classified as hazardous, do still require special handling considerations.

Types of special waste:

These wastes typically are generated in large volumes and possess less risk to human health and the environment than the wastes being identified for regulation as hazardous waste.
