The Wastebits Locator is designed to make your facilities and services easy for customers to find. To keep your listings accurate, you may receive a Google Sheet from our team with all locations currently on file. You can edit this sheet directly to update addresses, contacts, services, or other details. If you have multiple locations and haven’t received a spreadsheet yet, you can contact us and we’ll generate one for you. Once updated, our team will review your changes and apply them to the Locator.
Starting from Scratch
If you don't yet have any locations within the locator, start by filling out this form. The rest of these instrucitons will assume you have locations in our locator, and we've given you a spreadsheet to edit.
Updating a Single Location
If you only need to update a single location, the simplest method is to go to that location on the web, and in the footer there is a link titled "Request Edit for this Page". This will open a form that will have the URL pre-filled in and our support team can quickly make those one-off adjustments. For a mass-edit, the rest of these instructions apply.
Company Details
In the spreadsheet, there will be a tab for "Company Details", these fields are shown on your company detail page (that links out to all of your locations), and includes the following fields:
- URL Slug - the part of the URL that comes after `https://locator.wastebits.com/company/`
- Title - what is displayed at the top of the page
- Address Fields - street, city, latitude, etc. This is for your company's headquarters.
- Phone & Fax - company-level phone number and fax (optional)
- Description - A short description of the company (1-3 paragraphs)
Inherited Fields
Some of these fields can be used to provide information within each location's listing. For example, if you put a phone number at the company level, but leave the phone number blank for a location, it will inherit the company's phone number. However, if an individual location is given a phone number, it will be shown instead of the company phone number. The rule of thumb is: a location's information takes precedent, but company information will be used if a location's info is blank.
The following are company fields that will be shown in a location if none are provided for the individual location:
- Phone
- Fax
- Url
- Description
Location Details
The spreadsheet will include a tab with all of the location details listed one per row. I won't go into every column here, as some are self-explanitory (like city and state), but there are some notes for particular fields:
- Entry ID - Leave these as-is. They are used to reference an existing entry in our system. If you need us to add more locations than are listed, add them to the spreadsheet and leave "Entry ID" blank, we'll create new ones then.
- URL Slug - While this can be edited, it is advised to leave them as-is so search engines don't get confused with the existing URL structure.
- Parent Company - Leave as-is, these map to how our system sees your company name.
- Location Category - This is a predefined set of location categories that we have, these are the options:
- Landfill
- Full-Service Waste Removal
- Dumpsters & Containers
- Transporter
- Recycler
- Transfer Facility
- Waste & Environmental Services
- TSDF
- Sustainability Solution
- Liquid Waste
- Accepted Waste, Waste Not Accepted, and Services Offered - These are listings of multiple waste types and/or services. They must be separated not with a comma, but a special combination: `-|-` (without the tickmarks). So, an example for Accepted Waste would be: `municipal solid waste-|-sludge-|-tires-|-yard waste` If existing entries exist, they will already be shown like that.
- Latitude and Longitude: If you know these, great. If not, we have a tool that will look them all up as long as you provide the other info.
- Phone and Fax: We prefer the format `(555) 555-5555` for consistency.
- Email: This will be publicly shown on the website, although we use some basic steps to prevent bots from scraping these for spam purposes.
- Open Hours: Separate days (or groups of days) with a comma, like so: `M-F 7:00am-4:00pm, Sat 7am - 12:00pm` or `Monday: 7am - 4pm, Tuesday: 7am -4pm, Wednesday: Closed` etc.
If You Need To Remove Entries
If you need to remove entries from the listing we provide, simply let us know by providing a list of the Entry IDs you see in the spreadsheet and we'll remove them.
After Making Updates
Once you've updated the spreadsheet, let us know it has been updated and we'll re-import it. Note that we will still need to verify the information, look up the lat/lng, apply special formatting rules, etc. So our goal is not to have multiple edits/upload cycles, but one big update process after everything looks good from your end.
