Errors on an e-Manifest can disrupt the tracking process and lead to compliance issues. The Wastebits Hybrid e-Manifest system allows you to easily identify and correct errors before the waste is transported and provides guidance on handling discrepancies after transport. This document will walk you through the steps for making corrections to your e-Manifests, ensuring your shipments stay compliant and on track.
Step 1: Correcting Errors During Transport
If you discover an error on the e-Manifest before the waste has reached the Facility:
- Access the e-Manifest in Wastebits and navigate to the section requiring changes (e.g., generator information, waste details, transporter details).
Make the necessary edits directly within the Wastebits portal.
Ensure the generator is aware of the corrected information.
Once the changes are made, Wastebits will update RCRA with the changes and ensure compliance before the waste is transported.
Step 2: Handling Corrections After Transport
After the waste has been transported, making corrections becomes more restrictive. However, there are still ways to address any discovered discrepancies:
- If discrepancies are found after transport, make edits directly within the Wastebits portal. Ensure all parties are aware of the corrections. The discrepancy should be logged through the Wastebits system or directly with RCRAInfo to ensure the change is acknowledged.
It is essential to possess e-Manifest Certifier permissions in order to make and submit electronic corrections, even after the facility has signed the initial manifest. If corrections are made within Wastebits after the TSDF has signed (CROMERR) the final manifest, the manifest will update to "Under Correction" status within RCRA and all parties will be prompted to resign the manifest. The TSDF user will then need to log in to RCRA to CROMERR Sign and acknowledge the corrections made.
Important Notes
- Acknowledgment of Changes: All parties (generator, transporter, and facility) should review and acknowledge any corrections made while the waste is being transported. This step is crucial to maintaining compliance and preventing delays.
- EPA Requirements: Ensure that you’re adhering to all EPA regulations regarding the correction of e-Manifests. Significant errors may result in fines or compliance issues if not corrected promptly.
Conclusion
Handling errors in your e-Manifests is a straightforward process when using the Wastebits Hybrid e-Manifest system. By addressing issues before transport and documenting discrepancies afterward, you can stay compliant and ensure your hazardous waste shipments are accurately tracked.
